Well, Randolph has now used up two of his nine lives he borrowed from the cat! It is a testament to the breed known for tough genes, that three strikes from a copperhead and all the venom in it did not kill him. He was one sick puppy but he has recovered and seems to be fine. His sister and mother took me directly to the snake right after it had bitten him and I shot it. It will be months before he and his coat look their best ( shaved in numerous places for IVs etc ) but he is a bouncing boy playing for hours with his sister.

A word to the wise…..there is no protection that will keep a poisonous snake out of your yard ( fall is the worst time too ! ) but quick action is important. I keep Benadryl on hand at all times for the initial treatment before we head the vet. Check with yours to see what dosage for your dog, but giving that asap really helps. And don’t forget to keep some bird shot for your 410 and have them handy HAHA!

The comments I have been getting from this site amaze me. Not only are they made up of unrelated sentences structured upside down and backwards, but even their inherent meaning is obscured! Half of them are out right spam splashed across the net in short meaningless phrases and others are completely unintelligible. Once in a while, a writer attempts to make an entire paragraph sound plausible, but he uses words and tense that don’t exist. Here in the South we are used to the ” a tree done fell on my house that I had went to”….but what I am seeing sent from some major corporations by people who ARE PAID TO WORK THERE is mind boggling. It is no wonder the un-employment rate is so high. The ones who have lost their jobs could read and write with skill, but the interviewers they face for new jobs can’t and so they are turned away. The only job openings ( very few too ) are seeking young products of an education machine that assumes the computer will do the math correctly and the power will always be on. Thank goodness I know how to send a message for help by scratching it in the sand! The trouble is no one will understand it…..

It was sad to let it all go, but all my old Nikons and lenses now have new homes! I love the new Nikon D3100 and am still learning about all its features, but there was something reassuring about setting the aperature, focusing on the subject and hearing the little mirror flip…..you still hear things but I liken it to the difference between a stick shift and automatic transmission. However that is where the old ends~! I have been shooting inside a workshop with typical fluorescent lighting hand held and the result is beyond what conventional film could do…..just amazing! All of this exercise will lead to my next project which has to stay under wraps for a while <G>….don’t want to jinx it!

Well, it feels like sending one of your puppies off to a new home, but I know I have to let go. I have shot real film with my Nikons for 40 years and it is hard to put them on eBay but they are going up. I am actually shooting a roll in the FTN now to show what it can still do and I know the pictures will be fab of course, but that camera is a workhorse and the light meter is right on. I’ll let everyone know when I post the camera and lenses on eBay> maybe one of you will take it on!

I just picked up a new Sony W9 that does what I need, but I know my want buttons will chime in later for a real Nikon again…..sigh, its only money!

ITM we have three new commissions to tackle and that cheers me on. I also am starting another project that will give me yet another “tool in the toolbox”….more on that later!

The Virginia Hound show on May 29 marked the kickoff of the summer’s exhibit which was themed as “Women of the Chase”. The painting “Hunting Home” was shown there for the first time and I was thrilled to also see the portrait of Sally Young I did in 1982 hanging there also! It is in the photo of Mildred Ridell below. 4 paintings of mine are hanging there at this time. It was humbling.

It is a wonderful place well worth a visit, and the art and memorabilia in the MOHH is great fun. Below are some snaps from the reception and the hound show. Just the smell of the grass made me remember times at Grandma’s in Manassas.

Sporting clays, fishing, raptors etc…. the clays were quite safe with me, only a few bit the dust, but that 2 pound gill was snagged. I have never fly fished although I was an avid fisher as a kid, but I found it was a lot like cracking a hunt whip! Really fun. The place is gorgeous with incredible fish and the new 5 stand is designed for perfection.
